Extending Reading Opportunities Through Raz-KIds
Raz-Kids is an online resource that ASU has been using effectively at the elementary school level since 2013. All students from KG to Grade 5 have an individual account which gives them access to hundreds of interactive e-books. These e-books are leveled and as students improve in reading skills, they are assigned books at the appropriate level. The great thing about this resource is that students have the opportunity to listen to these books being read, read them themselves and also record themselves reading them. This allows all students to be successful. After reading a book, students can take an e-test that measures comprehension.
Each classroom teacher has access to a running record for each student which provides information on the number of books read, the amount of time spent reading, the level the student is at and the e-test scores.
